Improv Everywhere

27 Apr

From time to time, we stumble upon gems in the Internet universe which speak to us in varied ways.  Here’s a recent find from YouTube.com.  Please allow me to use some literature from their website, improveverywhere.com, to introduce the group.

Improv Everywhere causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of undercover agents. The group is based in New York City.

The first few videos I saw instantly brought me back to that time when I was enjoying community organizing, classroom teaching, and working with creative people.   I enjoy watching their videos and I am amazed by the thought processes that come in every mission they design.  As in real life, not everything they did came out successfuly but hey! With people like these, who needs a Juicy?!  Below are three of my favorite ImprovEverywhere videos.

What I liked about Grocery Store Musical is not so much of the out-of-nowhere singing but the feel good, witty song and performance.  It’s very SNL minus the sarcasm.  “Let’s squish our fruits together.  Our fruit is real, let’s make a meal of looove.” Haha!   Notice the big smiles on people’s faces?  A big purée!

The next video is entitled Human Mirror and it has been viewed 4 million times!  I like this vid and I give it A for Effort.  15 identical twins in the New York subway train doing some mirror stuff.  See how their fellow passengers react when they realize what they’re in for.  Hehe…

And the third one is The Best Game Ever.  Out of the three videos I chose, this one takes the cake for its creativity, effort, and heart.  Little league suddenly became major.  I’m sure sure that the group went over big with the children and their parents and coaches.

For more ImprovEverywhere, you may visit their website, follow them on Twitter, subscribe to their YouTube channel, or what have you.
